BANGALORE, INDIA: Indian IT services major Infosys Technologies said it would offer jobs to 13,000 freshers for the next financial year.
However, the number of engineering
colleges it visits every year for recruitment would be reduced
considerably. While Infosys used to visit 1,050 engineering colleges
earlier, in 2008 it was dropped to 700. This year the number is likely
fall to 500 or 550.
The company says it has been prompted to
do so since the conversion rate (the number of people who get offers
and finally join the company) in the last two years has improved
dramatically, according to Business Standard.
"In 2008, when we made the campus
offers, the conversion dramatically improved and this is the reason why
we did not require to go to so many colleges. Even now, though we plan
to visit 700 colleges, we are expecting to get the required numbers
from 500 or 550 colleges," it quoted Infosys senior VP Nandita Gurjar
as saying.
Infosys Board Member and Head of Human Resources T.V. Mohandas Pai
had recently said that the company would be hiring around 20,000
employees, an increase of 2000 from the earlier announcement. This
includes lateral hiring as well. This means around 7000 will be lateral
entry.
Infosys is also likely to appoint the
new CEO for its BPO unit by January 2010, according to Dow Jones.
Current CEO Amitabh Chaudhry had submitted his resignation on November
23. He is continuing as acting chief for now.
Another executive, Joydeep Mukherjee,
who heads the knowledge process outsourcing services at Infosys BPO had
also resigned following the resignation of Chaudhry.
