In what comes as a relief to medical aspirants across the state of Assam, Cell for Medical Entrance Examination-2016, Assam has decided to commence the registration process for entrance exam. Dibrugarh University will be conducting the exam, while rest details can be found at the information brochure.
There was wide outrage across the state when it was decided that all
the admission in medical colleges would be based on National
Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). All Assam Students Union had
approached Central government and Medical Council of India to consider
common entrance test in state as per earlier rules, considering plight
of students living in rural areas citing NEET is based on completely
different syllabus for them. The then Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Tarun
Gogoi had also assured students that the government would file a review
petition before the apex court as he felt the decision of holding NEET
would deprive students of Assam as majority of them reside in rural and
semi-urban areas and will have a completely different syllabus when it
comes to NEET.
Assam CEE for medical and engineering admissions was earlier
scheduled for May 14 & 15, but was put on hold in view of the
Supreme Courts April 28 verdict
to hold NEET from this academic session. Assam CEE serves as a joint
entrance examination for shortlisting students for admission into
various disciplines of Engineering and Medical courses offered at
institutes across the state. CEE was conducted in May only for B.E.,
B.Tech., BAMS and BHMS, while now the entrance test for admissions in
MBBS and BDS course offered at government medical/dental colleges would
be conducted on July 16 & 17, 2016.
Students who wish to appear in medical entrance examination (MEE) can
register themselves at the official website as the registration process
has started today. Last date for online form submission has been fixed
as June 17. Registrations for Assam CEE Medical Entrance Exam can be
