I. Common Proficiency Test(Paper- Pencil
Mode):
1. The Common Proficiency
Test(CPT) Paper-Pencil mode Examination will be held on
28thJune, 2009 in accordance with the
revised scheme ofeducation, training and examination of the Chartered
AccountancyCourse.

II. Common Proficiency Test
(OnlineCPT):
Apartfrom the above, it is also hereby notified that
theCouncil of theInstitute has decided to hold the Common Proficiency
Test(CPT) Onlinefor the candidates who would be willing to take the
TestOnline.
The Online CPT will be conducted on 28th
and29th March, 2009 at Ahmedabad, Bangalore,
Chennai,Delhi/New Delhi, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad,
Nagpur andPune Only, on 25th and 26th April,
2009atAhmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi/New Delhi,
Kanpur, Kolkata,Mumbai,Jaipur, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Pune Vadodara,
Chandigarh,Coimbatore,Ernakulam, Guntur, Indore, Lucknow, Raipur,
Surat,Thiruvananthapuram,Udaipur and Visakhapatnam Only, and on 23rd
and24th May, 2009 atAhmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi/New
Delhi,Kanpur, Kolkata, Mumbai,Jaipur, Hyderabad, Nagpur , Pune ,
Vadodara,Chandigarh, Coimbatore,Ernakulam, Guntur, Indore, Lucknow,
Raipur,Surat, Thiruvananthapuram,Udaipur and Visakhapatnam
Only.
Candidates intending to appearin Online CPT fromthe above
cities will be required to fill upexamination form Online
athttp://icaiexam.icai.org and option onceexercised shall be treated
asfinal and no change to Paper-Pencil modeTest will be allowed at
alater stage under anycircumstances.
The candidates intending to
take the CPT Online Testshallbe required to fill in the Online
examination application formwithrequisite fees and the facility for
Online filling up ofexaminationform would be made available as
indicated below :-

In case the number ofcandidates
opting for takingCPT Online in a particular city is morethan the
availability of seatsfor Online Test in that particular city,such
excess candidates shallbe allowed to appear Only in thePaper-Pencil
mode Test to be held on28th June, 2009 from one of thecentres in the
respective city optedfor by such
candidates.
Itis also notified that due to the availability oflimited
number of seatsfor online CPT, a candidate shall have to optfor either
one of theonline CPT to be held in March/ April/ May, 2009or Paper-
Pencil ModeTest to be held in June, 2009 depending on theconduct of
Online CPT inthe said city opted and/or availability ofseats in the
centreetc.
The decision of the Institute to admit a candidateto
eitherOnline Test in March/ April/ May 2009 or Paper-Pencil ModeTest
inJune-2009 is final and no correspondence for change of Test
/Centreetc. will be entertained under any circumstances. The medium
ofTest forOnline CPT would be
Englishonly.
Eligibility requirements to appear in CA
CPTDecember, 2009.
(a) A candidate shall
beeligible to appear in Common Proficiency Test to be held on
14thDecember 2009, if he has:
(i)Either passed the
SeniorSecondary Examination (10+2 examination) orits equivalent or must
haveappeared in the Senior SecondaryExamination (10+2 examination) or
itsequivalent of a recognizedInstitution,
and
(ii) Registered for CPT Coursewith Board of Studies of ICAI
on or before 6th October2009.
(b)A candidate who is already
registered for ProfessionalEducation-ICourse with Board of Studies of
ICAI and switched over toCPT course onor before 6th October 2009 will
also be eligible to appearin DecemberCPT.
Requirement
forPassing the Common
ProficiencyTest
Acandidate shall ordinarily
bedeclared to have passed the CommonProficiency Test if he obtains at
onesitting a minimum of 50 percentmarks in the aggregate of all the
foursubjects/sections comprised inCPT (Examination), subject to
theprinciple of negative marking.
It is clarified that there isno
requirement of securing minimum passing marks in a subject/sectionof
CPT examination.
Therewill be negative
markingfor each wrong answer. 1/4 (One Fourth) markwill be deducted for
eachwrong answer. Please note that multipledarkened circles for a
questionwill also be treated as wrong answer.
Anyfraction of mark
inaggregate will be rounded off to the next fullmark. It is
clarifiedthat there is no provision for improvement ofresult CPT examination
inthe Chartered Accountants Regulations,
1988.
Therefore,such studentswho have once passed the CPT
examination are not eligibletoapply/appear afresh/again in the
CPTexamination.

Applicationsfor admission
toCommon Proficiency Test is required to be made on
therelevantprescribed form as contained in the Information
Brochure,which may beobtained from the,

Onpayment of Rs. 600/-
(Rs.500/- towards examination feeand Rs. 100/-towards cost of
application form and Information brochure)perapplication
form.
The fee for candidates optingfor Abu Dhabi, Duabiand
Bahrain centres will be US $160 (US $ 150towards examination feeand US
$ 10 towards cost of application form andinformation brochure)or its
equivalent IndianCurrency.
Thefee for the candidates
opting for Kathmandu (Nepal)centre are requiredto remit INR.950/- (INR
850/- towards examinationfee and INR 100/-towards the cost of
application form and informationbrochure) or itsequivalent foreign
Currency.
Since thecost ofInformation brochure containing Common
Proficiency Testapplication formincludes the examination fee, no
separate fee isrequired to be remittedat the time of submitting the
filled inapplicationform.
The Informationbrochure
containing Common Proficiency Testapplication form will alsobe
available in the Regional and BranchOffices of the Institute andcan be
obtained there from on cash paymenton or from 6th
April,2009.
CommonProficiency
Testapplication forms duly filled in may be sent so as toreach
theAdditional Secretary (Examinations) at New Delhi not
laterthan27th April,
2009.
Applications receivedafter
27th April, 2009shall not beentertained
under any circumstances. Applications dulyfilled in will bereceived by
hand delivery at the offices of Instituteat New Delhi andat the
Decentralised Offices of the Institute atMumbai, Chennai,Kolkata,
Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad,Jaipur and Pune
upto27th April,
2009.
Candidatesresiding inthese
cities are advised to take advantage of thisfacility. It may benoted
that there is no provision for acceptance ofapplication formsafter
27th April, 2009 with
latefee.
Alternatively the candidate may fill up the
examinationapplication form online at http://icaiexam.icai.org from
6thApril, 2009 (10:00 hrs) to
27th April,2009 ( 17:30hrs) and remit the
fee online by usingcredit card, either VISA or Master
Card.
CommonProficiency Test (CPT) isopen only to those students
who are alreadyregistered with theInstitute of Chartered Accountants of
India for thesaid course on orbefore 1st April,
2009 and fulfill therequisite eligibility
conditions.
Question Paper
BookletLanguage:
CommonProficiency Test will
bean objective type multiple choice questionsbased
examination.Candidates will be allowed to opt for Hindi mediumQuestion
PaperBooklet for answering the questions. Detailedinformation will be
foundgiven in the Information brochure.
