Microsoft is revamping its MSN portal to give it a "Metro" look and feel that is consistent with the company's other websites. According to Microsoft, the page is optimized for the touch interface of its soon-to-be-launched Surface tablet and other Windows 8 RT devices.
The new design will be offered as a full-screen experience that emphasizes content, though the team behind MSN.com is apparently also eyeing mobile and tablet integration. As reported on CNET, Bob Visse, general manager of MSN.com said, "Eventually, we also will offer a MSN Windows 8 app and Windows Phone 8 app, too."
The move by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) to optimize its websites for its upcoming touch-friendly devices based on Windows 8 should come as no surprise. Indeed, it should serve as a reminder for companies to ensure that their own corporate websites are optimized for tablets and smartphones.
