Students of M Sc (Computer Science) at the Makhanlal National University of Journalism were at their wits end last Tuesday on finding that total marks shown in question papers were less than the marks printed against each question.
It first happened in the semester examination of MSc (computer science) course on December 27. The paper on 'Programming with C' carried minimum of 80 marks. But, there were five questions to be answered, each of 20 marks."It was quite confusing for us," a student, Geeta Sharma, said. A couple of students claimed to have approached the university authorities for some clarity. "All they said was we should take total marks to be 100 and not 80," she said.
That apart, in a few other question papers, the university just did not mention marks against the questions. However, the university authorities said they had received no complaints. "I did not get any complaint. The exams are going on smoothly," examinations controller Rajesh Pathak said.
The same mistake was detected in the first semester paper of Post Graduate Diploma of Computer Application (PGDCA). Students said the maximum marks were shown as 80. However, marks for each of 10 questions were mentioned as 10, adding up to 100 marks.
